Connecting people to restoration

Programs

Our programs connect people to the work of restoration — from students designing habitat to seniors connecting with bird-centered communities. Every program is rooted in the spirit of working together for the common good — the understanding that when we care for the land, we're caring for each other.

Stewardship rooted in place

Adopt a Pitstop

Adopt a Pitstop is our hands-in-the-soil stewardship program. Participants adopt a habitat site and care for it over time — learning ecological principles through a curriculum that moves from understanding a landscape to actively restoring it. Stewardship takes many forms: planting native species, monitoring bird activity, designing interpretive signage, or creating artful interpretations that help tell the story of a place. Every cohort leaves something behind that outlasts a single season — habitat, knowledge, or a sign that invites the next person to stop and look up.

Connecting generations to nature

Feathers and Friends

Feathers and Friends brings people into relationship with birds and with each other. Through guided habitat walks,  bird crafts, storytelling, and shared observation, this program connects older adults, families, and neighbors to the migratory species passing through their community. Research shows that access to nature improves health outcomes and longevity, particularly for those with the fewest opportunities to experience it. Feathers and Friends brings that access directly to people — starting with those who need it most.

Habitat at the pace of infrastructure

The Pitstop Network

The Pitstop Network is how we scale. Working with EV charging networks, municipalities, and landowners, we identify sites where required stormwater infrastructure can do more — and design region-specific native habitat that supports migratory birds while managing water. This is not stewardship at every site. This is building the continental corridor — hundreds of stopovers along migration routes, installed at the pace the crisis demands. The Network is the engine. Adopt a Pitstop and Feathers and Friends are how communities grow around it.
